Claim first or take over first?

Tikkertje's scoring fits on a beer mat, yet it creates a surprising number of choices. Claiming a free area scores 2 points. Taking over an area scores you 1 point, and the previous owner loses 1.

Think in differences

Do not just look at your own score. A takeover from the leader brings you 1 point closer and drops them by 1: the gap shrinks by 2 points. That is worth as much as a free area, but against the player you have to catch.

  • Early in the game: claim free areas, because they run out before you know it.
  • Halfway through: take over from whoever is on top.
  • Someone on 0? They cannot drop further, so a takeover does not hurt their score.
  • Repeating your own area scores nothing. Keep moving.

The clock plays along

Areas can close during the game. A closed area stays with its owner, but nobody can claim it any more. A takeover just before closing is extra strong: nobody can take it back. Keep an eye on the wrong half as well.

What about the tagger?

The tagger cannot score. If you get tagged, you are out of the points race for a while as the others carry on. Your score and areas stay put. On the other hand, you know that only the tagger can see you, so a quiet corner is never completely safe.

Not every mission takes the same time, either. Read how organisers write missions, and try the scoring yourself in the mini round on the homepage.
